Dartmoor 2011

Extracts from
the CO's Report

Once again we used Campaigner’s own canvas in a farmer’s field near the little village of Gidleigh, which is south east of Okehampton in Devon. This site is on the edge of the beautiful Dartmoor National Park, offering great walking country, spectacular scenery and a range of outdoor activities.

The theme for camp was ‘Desert Detectives’. Each day we were digging around searching for the ‘Mighty God Sword'. The whole purpose was to learn about our relationship with God, and salvation through Jesus Christ. Eventually we did find the treasure the ‘Mighty Gods Word’. We did all this with the help of puppet and drama teams, bringing the events of the Bible to life. Linked to the theme were the early morning quiet time and the morning craft activities ‘museum artefacts’.

At 9.30 pm we ran an extra session for Delta - an open forum when anyone could ask questions.

This year’s camp was good for the children to learn to dig a little deeper into the Bible for themselves, to see that God has a plan for them, but it was also great to see this older group listening and getting involved and to see God working in their lives too.

Steve & Kathy Davies, Camp CO's

During the week we played wide games on Meldon Hill, ate lunch in the remains of Cranbrook Castle overlooking the Teign gorge, admired the views from Yar Tor and sheltered from the drizzle at South Hessary Tor. Two groups went Gorge Scrambling and one group went Kayaking. We also enjoyed swimming in Okehampton, a visit the shops, our annual game of football, wide games and a home made water slide on camp.

Once again the team of cooks provided a great balance and varied menu which was enjoyed by all.  Their task was made that much easier by the circle of local suppliers who provided high quality locally sourced/produced food.
